Food festival, free kid's Welsh costume photos, rugby on the Big Screen...all Sat 25 Feb in Swansea

Where do we start...there's soooo much going on in Swansea tomorrow (25 Feb 2012)...

St David's Week starts with a bang with the Get Welsh food festival in Castle Square, plus if your child is dressed in Welsh costume pop into Swansea Market for a free photo!

Don't worry about missing the England v Wales game either - it'll be shown on the Big Screen in Castle Square.  Keep your fingers crossed for a Triple Crown!

If you fancy a bit of culture in the evening, call into the Brangwyn Hall where Wynne Evans will be singing with Morriston Orpheus Choir.  Wynne is always very entertaining and the concert starts at 7.30pm. 

Search for the dragons hiding in Plantasia's hothouse for the chance to win a prize

Forget chameleons on the loose, this time it's dragons you need to hunt for at Plantasia!

You will need to search high and low for all the dragons hidden in the hothouse in our St David’s week trail to get the chance to win a large dragon puppet.

Try something new to get fit this spring - how about orienteering in Swansea?

The Swansea Bay Spring Festival is packed with fun ideas of activities and things to do in Swansea to keep active, including more unusual sports like orienteering.  

Orienteering is getting very popular and is great for families or individuals to get on the move, so why not give it a go?  

There's an orienteering session next Wednesday 29 Feb 2012 or have a look at the events planned for March too, which include orienteering in Gower and Brynmill.

Enjoy a talk from world-renowned glaciological expert at Swansea Museum

Swansea Museum is holding the latest in a series of Antarctic talks on Wednesday 22 February, in association with the current Antarctic Exhibition. 

Dr Nicholas Barrand from the British Antarctic Survey will be giving a presentation on Glaciology & Climate Change focusing on the behaviour of glaciers and ice sheets due to global warming, current aspects of research at the British Antarctic Survey, and the day-to-day realities of living and working in polar environments.

Admission is free with the talk beginning at 1.00 pm.

Celebrate St David’s Day With A Greetings Card From The Past

To commemorate Wales’ patron saint on 1 March West Glamorgan Archives has produced a special St David’s Day greetings card.

The cards feature the striking portrait of a young girl in a Welsh costume, taken in a photographic studio in Swansea around 1910, accompanied by a celebratory message to mark the national day. 

Cards can be purchased from West Glamorgan Archive Service in Swansea Civic Centre.

Edgar Evans died 100 years ago today during Captain Scott's ill-fated South Pole expedition

Did you know that 100 years ago today Gower-born Edgar Evans died while hiking back from the South Pole?

Petty Officer Evans was part of Captain Scott's expedition party which made it to the South Pole in 1912.  However, Evans died at the foot of the Beardmore Glacier exactly a month after he'd reached the Pole.

Wonderful Welsh tenor Wynne Evans will be perfoming at the Brangwyn Hall with Morriston Orpheus Choir and the Chamber Orchestra of Wales.

The concert is part of the St David's Week celebrations in Swansea, to commemorate Wales' patron saint.
